Let me introduce Myself

What’s more exciting? The introduction of IRSC’s mascot, the Peregrine Falcon, or the introduction of Laura Midkiff, our new Alumni Relations Director? “Pioneer” was revealed as IRSC’s mascot in May 2022 and Laura joined the IRSC Foundation a little over a year later. A huge fan of our mascot, Laura has almost literally swooped in with enthusiasm and overwhelming school spirit.

A message from Laura:

I am pleased to introduce myself as your new Alumni Relations Director at Indian River State College. I am thrilled to be part of IRSC’s rich history that has been cultivated these last 63 years and even more excited to contribute to the next 63 years of our legacy!

As your Alumni Relations Director, I will provide and encourage new, meaningful ways for our alumni to engage with their alma mater, one another, and the greater Treasure Coast community by designing outreach campaigns, hosting events, and updating our database system.

I am committed to keeping you up-to-date with what’s happening on our campuses. Look for our Alumni Newsletter in your inbox and contact me as I’d love to hear your story. I aim to keep you engaged in an ongoing, rewarding relationship with IRSC long after you’ve graduated because your journey began with us. Welcome home, Pioneers!

Alumni Association 2023 Recap

The new Indian River State College Alumni Association emerged in 2023 with its mission to foster alumni involvement. From July through December, the IRSC Alumni Association:

  • Created a logo package with the help of our Marketing, Media, and Branding Team.
  • Held our first event – Pioneer Pub, a meet and greet for IRSC alums employed by IRSC.
  • Produced an Alumni Association webpage.
  • Constructed a presence online: LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram.
  • Promoted events through radio advertisements on WQCS 88.9 FM.
  • Celebrated the holidays at our inaugural “Tis the Season” event.

In the works for 2024:

  • Expanding our network by reaching out to as many alumni as possible. Look for an email in your inbox during the month of January, as we launch our Alumni Association Newsletter.
  • Increasing the number of annual alumni events and rotating locations throughout our four-county area.
  • Establishing an Alumni Association office in the Koblegard Student Union on the Massey Campus.
  • Engaging alumni in volunteerism and community support.

Please consider updating your contact information below. Should you have thoughts and ideas regarding alumni events, please contact Laura.

IRSC Foundation Golf Tournament

Due to inclement weather on March 22nd, the Indian River State College Foundation Golf Tournament has been rescheduled for May 17th at Martin Downs Country Club in Palm City. Sponsorship opportunities and registrations are available. Registration is two-hundred and fifty dollars per player and includes green and cart fees, breakfast and lunch – followed by a cocktail reception, all benefitting the IRSC Promise Program which provides area high school students the opportunity to pursue their associate degrees tuition-free at Indian River State College.

Fall ’23 Graduation Highlights

On December 13th and 14th, Indian River State College celebrated the graduation of approximately 1,400 Pioneers. Alumni Relations Director Laura Midkiff was on hand to congratulate the new IRSC alumni as they departed the stage, gifting each graduate with an alumni pin. The joy and excitement in the Havert L. Fenn Center were palpable as graduates and their friends and families reveled boisterously! Click here for more graduation stories.

Lifelong Learning at IRSC – 2024

The Fielden Institute for Lifelong Learning at Indian River State College is designed for men and women age 50 and older who are interested in exploring shared topics of interest in a college atmosphere. No pre-requisites, no long semesters, no grades, no tests—learning simply for the joy of learning. Programs are peer-led and peer-directed by the membership. Peer leaders volunteer to lead discussion and study groups, hands-on activities, field trips, lectures, book and film groups, all in a welcoming and appropriate environment for the adult learner. These programs do not apply to any IRSC degree program and are non-credit. Peruse the 2024 schedule.
