Take Stock in Children Program Awards Four-Year Tuition Scholarships to 40 Local Students

Tuesday, September 22, 2015

The IRSC Foundation is the lead agency for the Take Stock in Children Scholarship Program in Indian River, Martin, St. Lucie, and Okeechobee counties.

This unique multi-faceted scholarship program selects low-income, at-risk youth in middle school and awards them with the opportunity to earn a full-tuition, four-year scholarship if they meet with a mentor, maintain good grades, stay out of trouble, and graduate high school.

Now in its 20th year, the statewide program has served hundreds of thousands of deserving students.

At the recent 20th Anniversary Awards Ceremony, former students dating from the inception of the program shared their memories and successes.  In 2015, the Foundation awarded 40 middle school students with the new scholarship opportunity. 54 high school graduates and 55 IRSC graduates were also recognized for their achievements.

Community support is vital to the future success of this important program. Local funds help local students --- funds raised locally are matched dollar-for-dollar by the Florida Prepaid Matching Program making a four-year tuition college scholarship possible for only $9,000 per student. Gifts of any amount are appreciated and can be combined to help a student’s dreams come true.
