Alumna Lisa Sellers Shares How the
IRSC Foundation Helped Her Pursue Her Dreams

Lisa Sellers currently works at the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) of Indian River County. Before moving to the VNA, she worked with Dr. Michael J. Costello, a general and vascular surgeon at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center. She worked with him intermittently since 1996 until he recently retired. She had worked as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner since 2012 with Dr. Costello.

She received her Associate in Arts degree from Indian River State College (IRSC) in 1992. Then, she went on to receive her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in 1996 and her Master of Science in Nursing degree from FAU in 2012. She received the leadership award for the graduating class and was part of the honor society in nursing, Sigma Theta Tau.

She has a diverse nursing background. She held many different positions as a Registered Nurse, worked in the home health care arena and taught nursing education. While living in Montana in 2006, she was an instuctor at Montana State University. She did the clinical portions of the program with students at the hospital setting and outpatient settings.

When she returned to Florida, she worked for the Indian River School District as a clinical educator working with Licensed Practical Nursing students at Indian River Medical Hospital, rehab centers, nursing homes and the health department. She received the clinical excellence award nominated by her peers and students as an instructor while working in this program.

She credits her professional success to the scholarship assistance she received from the Lillian G. Lockwood Scholarship through the IRSC Foundation.

While she is very proud of her career achievements, she says her biggest accomplishments are her two daughters. She is confident that she has set a good example for them to pursue their education and folow their dreams.
