Mentor Resources

President's Challenge/ Take Stock in Children Mentor Update Form

Thank you for sharing your time, talents, and treasures with the Take Stock in Children students. Your guidance has helped the students to reach their academic and personal goals. We hope you are planning to participate as a mentor again this year.

In an effort to assess the number of new mentors we will need for this school year, we ask that you complete a brief questionnaire stating your mentoring intentions by August 29.  These few minutes of your time will go a long way in helping to ensure that each Take Stock scholar has a mentor. Remember, the mentoring component is the backbone of the Take Stock in Children program.

If you plan on remaining with your mentee(s), please resume your meetings beginning the week of September 1st.  Please check with your mentee’s school when you resume mentoring. You may be required to complete an additional volunteer form. Each school is different and their form, if required, may be in person or online.

Mentor Toolkit

Take Stock in Children has developed a Mentor Toolkit to make it easier for you to help your student. The Toolkit consists of simple, enjoyable activities that also have a serious purpose: to promote your student’s success in school and in life.

The Mentor Toolkit is not an instructional manual intended to tell you how to mentor your student. Every student is a unique individual. Every mentoring relationship is unique. Mentors and students should therefore decide for themselves how to use this collection of tools. Do not feel compelled to complete every activity. You can use the resources in any order — randomly or sequentially — or leave them aside until you feel they are needed.

Please remember that your primary task as a mentor is to meet regularly with your student. The two most important things mentors can do for their students are to listen to them and to encourage them to succeed.
